Lake Como

Italy's third largest lake, and with a depth of over four hundred metres also its deepest, Como is of glacial origin. Its stunning beauty comes from the fact that it is practically surrounded by mountains, the highest being Monte Legnone at 2,609m.

From the point of view of owning a home Como is just half an hour from Milan and also offers superb access to Switzerland.

The charm of the area can be found in the many villages, squares and promenades which mix lush Mediterranean foliage (there are probably more palm trees here than in Tuscany!) with snowy mountain peaks.

The area is well-known for its splendid villas, some of which have been converted into hotels but some of which remain intact. One of the most charming villages is Menaggio, just 18Km from the Swiss border. It has a good beach, beautiful promenade, swimming pool and eighteen hole golf course.
